The BTS played a major part in founding the ITA and continues to be active in its activities.
The BTS is very pleased to support Martin Knights in his role as President of the International Tunnelling Association. Martin produces periodic newsletters and these can be accessed by clicking the following link ITA Newsletters.
Our national representatives attend the annual ITA General Assembly and World Tunnel Congress. Donald Lamont is the current UK Member Nation representative to the ITA General Assembly.
The ITA has a number of Working Groups, which meet annually and prepare reports and guidance on a range of tunnelling topics from Underground Works through to Shotcreting and Mechanised Tunnelling. Information on publications can be accessed via the ITA Website.
Much of the ITA activity is done through its working groups and the UK is represented on many. Donald Lamont is Animateur of ITA WG5 “Health and Safety in Works”; Martin Smith is Vice-animateur of ITA WG 3 “Contractual Practices” whilst Jon Baber is Vice-animateur of ITA WG 11 “Immersed and Floating Tunnels”.
BTS members normally contribute a number of papers at each World Tunnel Congress.
