He will describe in detail each stage in the works from initial diagnostics to the final techniques to restore commercial services and highlight the major innovations developed by Eurotunnel during this project. | Christian Maquaire Industrial Director, Eurotunnel |
| 19-Nov-09 | Joint meeting with BGA. The Belfast Sewers Project Stormwater Management Works ContractThe Belfast Sewers Project is designed to alleviate the risk of flooding in central Belfast and improve the water quality of the River Lagan and its tributaries by significantly reducing the pollutant loadings from a number of combined sewer overflows. The scheme comprises 9.6km of tunnels which vary in diameter from 1.5m to 4 metres at depths ranging from 10 metres to 30 metres. The works also include 19 access shafts located throughout the city. The geology of Belfast is complex and highly variable which presented significant challenges throughout the construction phase. |

| 10-Dec-09 (Note 2nd Thursday and not 3rd of month) | Debate by BTS Young Members Group - Tunnelling into the FutureThis house believes that the UK tunnelling industry has the sufficient range of engineering expertise and resources to meet the challenges of future projects. Abstract:- The future of our tunnelling industry is uncertain. The discontinuous nature of landmark tunnelling projects has left a generation gap within the industry in both skills & experience. With world class infrastructure projects looming, the ability & reputation of the UK to resource these effectively is fast becoming an issue of national, if not international importance. Each team will comprise a speaker from both ends of the age spectrum to ensure a vigorous & provocative debate. Audience participation is warmly welcomed. |
