Engineering Underground Space

The Institution of Civil Engineers is holidng a one-day conference on Engineering Underground Space. The programme features major UK infrastructure projects, including Crossrail, HS2 and Hinkley Point.

The conference will offer case studies and strategies that demonstrate innovation, skills and best practice, and help delegates understand the technologies and techniques guiding industry.

BTSYM Conference 2015

The 2015 BTSYM Conference was held at Pinsent Masons, London on 27th March. Please click here for further information.

A key aim of BTSYM Conference was to allow young tunnelling professionals to gain a broader understanding of the industry outside of their work area. Presentations were given by Young Members from a range of backgrounds covering the different aspects of a tunnelling project's lifecycle from feasibility, design, construction and beyond. The conference also provided an opportunity for delegates to meet fellow professionals after presentations.

ITA World Tunnel Congress 2015

The Geological Society: Sustainable Exploitation of the Subsurface: the geology, engineering and environment of our underground asset

To be held at Burlington House, London, a two-day conference (option to attend 1 day only) coordinated by the Geological Society of London and the UK IAEG National Group, supported by the Geological Society's Engineering Group and the BTS. The meeting will bring together current thinking of the role the ground plays in providing a resilient underground resource and will cover the following aspects; current investigation techniques, how geoscientists characterize underground space for different purposes; the impact of underground development on infrastructure, anthropogenic and natural geology; and the role of regulation in managing underground space.

Glasgow Shieldhall Tunnel and Tunnelling Seminar

Venue: The Marriott Hotel, Argyle Street, Glasgow.

The Scotland Region of the ICE, in conjunctiOn with the British Tunnelling Society is holding an afternoon seminar on the prestigious £100 million project, the Shieldhall Tunnel. This is a 3.1 mile underground wastewater tunnel which will run through the centre of Glasgow.
