ICE Tunnel Engineering Exhibition

The ICE Tunnel Engineering Exhibition is currently on at the Institute of Civil Engineering, One Great George Street, London SW1P 3AA and will run until 9 November 2017.

The exhibition is free of charge and open to the public from Monday to Friday from 10.00 till 17.00. Visitors can walk the tunnelling timeline, tracing the history of tunnelling from ancient Egypt through to tunnels in the planning. A selection of major tunnelling projects are showcased, including Thames Tunnel, Bazalgette Sewers, Lee Tunnel, Channel Tunnel, London Power Tunnels, Belfast Sewers, Thames Tideway, Crossrail, Gotthard Base Tunnel, and Fehmarn Belt.

Visitors can discover what inspired great civil engineers of the past, examine tunnel construction techniques, wander through Thames Tideway and Crossrail tunnels using virtual reality headsets, view up close a detailed Lego model of a TBM and even attempt to construct their own Lego models.

The exhibition is for everyone and for all ages, from tunnelling professionals to those with no prior knowledge of the industry.
