2017 International Women in Engineering Day

Friday 23rd June was International Women in Engineering Day. INWED is an annual event which aims to raise the profile of women in engineering and spread awareness amongst women and girls of the exciting career opportunities in engineering. #MenAsAllies is the sub theme for 2017.

The picture was taken at the 2017 ITA WTC in Bergen, Norway, where women made up approximately one third of the ITA Young Members. In many countries, tunnelling continues to out-perform other male-dominated industries in tackling gender inequality and attracting women into engineering. However, statistics gathered by the Women's Engineering Society reveal that the UK has the lowest percentage of female engineering professionals in Europe at less than 10 percent and, with a serious shortage of engineers in general, there remains much to be done.

More information can be found on the INWED website.
