BTSYM Midlands branch

11/05/2014

The BTSYM have recently launched a Midlands branch, in collaboration with the ICE East and West Midlands branches. Planned activities include lectures, site visits, socials, and school visits to encourage young people into tunnelling.

The BTSYM provides excellent opportunities for young tunnelling professionals including networking events, seminars, onsite visits and workshops, and it also aims to promote the tunnelling industry. Previously these opportunities have mostly been provided in the south of the UK making it difficult for people outside London to participate in these opportunities. For this reason, Civil Engineer Kaylie Donnelly, working in Donaldson Associates in Derby, helped to establish a BTSYM group in the Midlands.
Kaylie is currently collaborating with the ICE East and West Midlands to organise BTSYM events in the local area. Upcoming events include social nights out in cities such as Nottingham, Birmingham and Derby, lectures on tunnel engineering, onsite visits to tunnels being built in the area, and the opportunity to work side by side with the ICE in schools to encourage young people to become involved in tunnel engineering.
The BTSYM Midlands group encourages all Civil and Tunnelling Engineers in the region to get involved. To sign up for free membership and to be notified of upcoming events, please contact Kaylie.
