National Tunnelling Day

The aim of National Tunnelling day is to generate interest in the great number of world class tunnelling projects being undertaken in the UK and to promote the industry (and its many professions) to students of all ages and the general public. The day is an annual event on the first Thursday of December, chosen due to its proximity to the Feast Day of St. Barbara, traditionally seen as the Patron Saint of Tunnellers in the UK.

As part of the day a media campaign runs on Twitter. Individuals and organisations are encouraged to tweet and share interesting images, stories, and news items (historical or current) using the designated hashtags and ultimately get it trending on social media channels.

The BTS Young Members organisation leads the media campaign through its twitter and facebook accounts, re-tweeting and sharing posts containing the hashtags throughout the day. Last year's flyer is available for download for reference.
