BTSYM Events

The BTS Young Members arrange a number of different types of events, including:

National Tunnelling Day

National Tunnelling Day takes place on the first Thursday in December each year. The BTSYM launched the first event in 2015 with the aim of promoting the tunnelling industry to the wider public, and in particular to young people who may be inspired to consider a career in tunnelling.

Evening lectures

The BTSYM organise four evening lectures each year, normally held in February, April, June, and October. These are held at the Institution of Civil Engineers, starting at 6pm, and consist of a talk, followed by questions and answers. These lectures are open to all, and are not restricted to young members.

The BTSYM organise periodic workshops on specialist subjects of interest to BTS Young Members. BTSYM Workshops in the Education & Training section of this website has information on upcoming and past workshops.

A key aim of BTSYM Conferences is to allow young tunnelling professionals to gain a broader understanding of the industry outside of their work area. Presentations are given by Young Members from a range of backgrounds. Conferences also provide an opportunity for delegates to meet fellow professionals after presentations.

Site visits

Periodically, site visits to tunnelling projects are organised for small groups of Young Members, which prove extememly popular. Please follow BTSYM Facebook where site visits are advertised.

Social events

The BTSYM organises occasional social events for its members. These are a great opportunity to catch up with friends in the industry and to network whilst enjoying a good night out. Social events are advertised on the BTSYM Facebook page.

Schools and Universities

The BTSYM organise visits to schools and universities, giving science lessons based around tunnelling, or talks on tunnelling as a career path. For further information, please visit the Education & Training Page.
