Glasgow Shieldhall Tunnel Breakthrough

The Costain Vinci GP JV completed the construction phase of the Glasgow Shieldhall Tunnel on 12th October when the mix-shield, 'Daisy' broke through into the reception shaft at Queens Park. The breakthrough marked the completion of Scotland's biggest wastewater tunnel, running for 5km beneath Glasgow.

The project is technically complex, with minimal cover to the tunnel and what can only be described as challenging ground conditions. To quote the CVJV Project Director: 'This is one of the most challenging projects that many of us have worked on, and the completion of the tunnel construction is testament to the skills, knowledge and determination of our team, who have safely delivered a high quality piece of infrastructure that will have a huge positive impact for the city now and in the future.'
